Depression?
"DEPRESSION is not the only mental illness out there. Depression is not the only cause of suicide. Depression is not the only reason to see a Mental Health Professional. Getting a diagnosis for depression has steps/procedures. A lay person can't tell you that you are depressed. You can't tell yourself you have depression. First, your medical doctor has to carry out some lab tests and other tests to rule out other medical diagnosis that could have similar symptoms of depression. A medical doctor may refer you to a Psychiatrist to confirm if you are depressed or not. Then depending on your level of depression, a Psychologist, Counselor and/or Psychotherapist may be recommended for you or a Psychiatrist may place you on some meds too. To give a diagnosis for depression, you must have been medically observed for a period of time. For example, just because you have a ONE High Blood Pressure reading doesn't mean you have Hypertension. However, if it remains continuous, then a doctor gives you a diagnosis. So, let's make Mental Health Awareness a well-rounded continuous project and not narrow it down to just one area only. So, we can help our world better." - Martha I. Iyen
